My mom, Margarite Lois Gearhart Zahn Dare aka ‘Peggy’, has been quite an inspiration for me throughout the years. She was thirty-seven years old when I was born and she thought for sure she would be in a wheelchair for my high school graduation. She just turned 89 and will run you down in her power chair if you aren’t watching out. It’s been like this for as long as I can remember and you wonder where I get it from?
All kidding aside I am grateful to have a wonderful relationship with her and enjoy her smile. She knows when to give me support and knows when to question me. She is still my mom and I appreciate all that she has done for me through the years and now I get to repay her a little bit to make sure she is comfortable. We are planning a Mother’s Day party at Casa de Zahn this Sunday to welcome her, and all of the other Mom’s in our growing family, for some fun. Now I have to think of something silly gift to get her to capture her contagious smile.
Love you Mom, JZ
My mom, Janet, has been a wonderful inspiration in my life. Raising her children and managing the household was a top priority, while she was employed in positions that allowed her to have the flexible schedule required. Looking back, it is clear that her mother-centric personality lead her to work in elementary and adult education.
Upon moving away from home in 2003, our relationship became stronger and our communication more prevalent. In thinking about Mother’s Day, I was reviewing photos and found this great photo of Mom joining me on a landsailer for a bit of fun on the playa. Needless to say, this was out of her comfort zone; however, she actually had a blast, and so did I. Although Mom lives in TN, we will appreciate modern technology with a Mother’s Day video chat to discuss our plans for a bit of fun on the lake when we visit Traverse City, MI this coming July. I might even convince her to join me for a ride on the Jet Ski. 😛
Love you Mom, Nate
