Swimming Lessons for Your Children

By Sunset

A few weeks back we wrote an article titled “Getting Your Kids in the Pool”. This article stated numerous ways to get your children in the pool and one of those was through swim lessons. Now some of you readers may not have children or may have children that are way beyond the point of needing lessons, but for the rest of you with small children you want to make sure they get an early start swimming. Because, hey, you never know, maybe your child may just be the next Michael Phelps. So if you have small children and are interested in getting them to start swimming then keep reading below as we offer a few ways to go about swim lessons.

Teach them Yourself

You don’t have to be David Hasselhoff to show your children how to swim. Simply teach them the basic strokes like freestyle, breathe stroke, and whatever else you want. If you don’t know how to do these then simply look them up online. You can start them with floaties and buy them a kickboard so they can learn how to kick. The best part about teaching them yourself is being able to spend time with your children and watch them grow up.

Hire an Instructor

An instructor can be found anywhere whether it be a professional one or a local boy on the water polo team. Instructors often have their own pool for your children to use, but why do that when you can have your kid learn right in your backyard. Sunsational Swim School is one site that links you with an instructor who will come to your pool and teach your children. This is probably the best option if you’re looking to have your child learn in your own pool, but don’t want to have to deal with the hassle of teaching them yourself.

Swimming School

Swimming lessons are constantly held at public locations. McGaugh Elementary hosts swim lessons which are put on by the city of Seal Beach. Another good option is Watersafe Swim School which is located on Cerritos by Los Alamitos High School. Watersafe Swim School has a good community reputation and provides the highest quality lessons available – the only downside is that you have to drive you children to this school rather than seeing them swim in your backyard.

GretaKelli and Eddie were actually taught to swim by Greta Andersen. Greta is a retired Danish swimmer who won a gold and silver medal in the 100 m freestyle 1948 Olympics. Soon after Greta moved to the U.S. where she did marathon swimming and set numerous records. Greta has now been teaching swimming lessons at the Los Alamitos Base since 1960. Check out her website http://www.gretaandersenswimschool.com/ if you also want to be able to say your children learned to swim from a retired Olympic athlete.
